October 24 – 28th Walt Disney Elementary will be recognizing Red Ribbon Week. This week is a nationwide celebration raising awareness about saying NO to tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs. October is also anti-bullying month.

According to the National Family Partnership, Red Ribbon Week’s founding organization, “Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.”   As always, talking with our kids about who they are, who we are, and how to make good choices is an awesome way to show them how much we care.

To participate in Red Ribbon Week, talk to your kids about making smart choices and allow them to pick special clothing each day to reflect their participation.

Monday, October 24th: Wear red day! All students will receive a pencil with the Red Ribbon theme on it.

Tuesday, October 25th:  Wear orange, “Orange you glad to be bully and drug free?”

Wednesday, October 26th: Wear camouflage or army colors such as green, brown, or khaki to symbolize his or her commitment to fighting against bullying and drugs.

Thursday, October 27th: Disney Dolphin spirit wear or Disney colors (blue and yellow) and jeans.

Children grades 1 – 5 will also be watching a video and doing an activity. Names in each grade will be drawn throughout the week for other Red Ribbon items.
